Description of Neighboring/Existing Routes: All existing routes (over 25) on the Slab formation are mostly bolted sport climbs. Please see photo Proposed route is in Yellow. Existing routes are in Red. All routes are approximately 10 feet apart.

The City of Boulder OSMP requires a description of existing routes on the same face of the rock formation, including the number of routes, route names, route grade, type [traditional or bolted], and approximate distance between routes, and a photocopy or diagram of the existing route(s).

Approach Description: Use the existing well-established approach for the west face of this formation. It is a few hundred yards away from the main Fern Canyon trail.

Descent Description:

The descent is via lowering off the route.

The City of Boulder OSMP requires a description of the descent, if different from the approach, using the same evaluation criteria. 

Base Area Description: 

Use the existing and well-established base and staging area for Pen 15 and Prime the Pump.

The City of Boulder OSMP requires a description of the proposed route, including: existing levels of soil compaction, existence of a durable surface such as rock, existing soil erosion, and photographs of the area at the base of the climb.

Description of Route Evaluation Efforts:

All reconnaissance work has been completed and the route is ready to be installed.

Has the route been top roped? Is there loose rock?  Is it extremely overhanging?

Yes, the route has been successfully top-roped using traditional protection for anchors and directionals.

There is minimal loose rock, which will be easy to clean during bolting.

The route is moderately overhanging.

Additional Notes:

This will be a great addition to the slab on good quality stone. It does not interfere with any existing routes and does not require any new trails or staging areas at the base. It will share the comfortable 2nd pitch belay anchor for the route Pen 15. The route has been freed at a grade of about 5.13.

Update: This route has been approved by OSMP

The City of Boulder OSMP expects for the person(s) proposing the new route to to perform all reconnaissance work that can be reasonably done, short of placing any unapproved hardware.
